Balmain F/W 2010

A gold pallette was used as the theme of this Fall collection. Christophe Decarnin used the Balmain trademarks (the asymetric cut, the shoulder pads, the almost-architectural dresses) that propulsed the house to its top in the recent years. I noticed a french aristocratie inspiration as well.

Here I'm posting my favorite looks. All in all i'm not blown away, but it was a good collection none-the-less, in my humble opinion.

Black cool

I'm a big fan of the 70's and 80's fashion style, especially among African-American. There's something about that era that's just effortlessly cool. They wore bright colors but adjenced it so well it never felt like they tried too hard. This Complex editorial featuring Theophilus and styled by Anoma Ya Wittaker reminds me of that era.Great job!

January 12th was a fatal day for all Haitians around the world. I haven't posted anything about it since it happened because I had to wrap my head around the fact that the beautiful island my parents are so proudly from, crumbled. As each building crumbled, our hearts fell, crushed and finally broke.

I won't tell you how important it is to give, you already know how you would feel if your town was shattered by an earthquake of 7.3. Wether you're from a rich, occidental, or third-world country, internatinoal aid would be given to you.

I'm from Montreal, Quebec, Canada and I'm deeply touched by how the world reacted to this tragedy. I want to thank ALL the people who gave to us. All the artists who performed, all the concerts and telethons, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart, and I know I speak on behalf of all Haitians when I say, we THANK YOU for all you've done.

That girl Kesh

Designer, DJ, photographer, creator of many dope shit, has done tons of collaborations and she blogs about her life. Kesh is an artist originally from London and recently shipped to Chicago, who's made a name for herself in the London scene and is starting to do the same in the States.

I first took notice of her on myspace (anyone with a big ass 'fro will get my attention) and as I browsed through her pictures, I just thought how amazing it was that she was my age and doing all cool stuff she wanted to do. Not a lot of people under 23 can proudly say they presented at London Fashion Week.

She likes to party. Works with celebrities but still manages to keep her work underground. She's also very humble and express her opinions on whatever tickles her (remember that Lady Gaga rant?!)

She recently cut out her hair (tears!) for a very short do. Kesh also sells lots of her wardrobe on E-bay so if you wanna cop a hot designer skirt or a re-made trift store outfit, check her out.

Words to the World

Have you ever wished you won the lotto? Have 225 pairs of shoes? A closet full of designer clothes? Hell, just be loaded? Money-coming-out-of-your-ears rich? Do you think it would change you? For the better or for the worse? Do you think people would judge you? Criticize you? Do you think it would be fair? Since they do not know you and the efforts you have put to come to this point?

Ladies & Gents, I ask all these questions because it has come to my attention that that's what MOST people want (to be rich) and yet all people (most of them) can do or are doing is criticize the rich, judging them unfairly. Is it a sin? A crime? Against morals? If so, why does everybody want to be them?

I'm not taking sides. I'm not excusing either sides but events in the past few weeks have opened my eyes to the human's twisted brain. Look at what happened to Leona Lewis at her book signing (she was brutalised). The man who punched her could've have a knife or worse, a gun! While most find this DISTURBING,some laughed and said "her record sucks so she deserves it" or "she rich, she'll get over it." Alicia Keys was known to have very bad skin and all people could say was "damn she ugly! How can she have all this money and look like this!".

It happens to non-celebrity people as well. I knoow it sometimes seems unfair, but for them to be living so good, somebody worked their ass off. Everybody strives to be successful and make money so why when someone is on top don't we embrace and get inspired? Why most have to be bitter?

Those artists, that you seem to love and hate, could be you're daughter, son, sister, brother or your cousin.

All this to say, money can give you so much but misery can bring much more and suck all your people in. Be grateful for what YOU have and stop playing victims of society.

S/S 2010 collections (contd)

Alexander Wang

I was looking forward this collection and didn't know what to expect really from him. I knew about Alexander because he worked closely with Erin Wasson and she contributed to some of his collections in the past. She has an amazing style so I thought he should be just as cool and since everyone is talking about him I was very curious. Well, my curiosity is satisfied, I really like this collection Mr. Wang! The long-sleeved mini-dress with high heels and the braid on the side is definitely one of my favorite look. I also liked the sporty side of this collection, I find that it was just as sexy as the short dresses if not more. I'm looking forward the next season.

Bluemarine S/S 2010

I l.o.v.e this collection from Blumarine. I couldn't tear my eyes from my screen from 0:01 till the end. The models werked it, the clothes were beautiful, the colors were eye-popping, the bags, the ballerinas, the accessories....*sigh* I also liked the Jamaican influence in some of the clothes. Overall, the collection is fun but still chic.

Jason Wu S/S 2010

Chic at its height. Jason Wu set the bar very high for his next collections to come after this one. The styling is great, from the hair to the makeup to the clothes and accessories. The girls looked amazing, the clothes were very sophisticated, very chic (I know I can't stop saying that word!) and yet very wearable for the everyday life. I especially liked the piece they put on the model's hair, I have a feeling we're going to see it often.

The second part doesn't have sound but is still as great. Check it!

DVF S/S 2010

Influenced by different parts of the world, each pieces of clothes this season was beautifully designed and styled. My first designer dress will probably be from DVF as she always keeps it young and fresh and yet, still appealing to every generation. I also liked the makeup this season, very fresh, the only thing I didn't like as much was the hair flowers.

I've been bouncing to...

*screams* WHITNEY IS BACK!! After all the drama, the mess, the bad habits, she's back and she's feeling like a million dollar bill! I love the old school beat and her smooth voice over it.

RnB singer Mario is also coming up with a new album and "Break up" is the official first single. With lyrics like Don't I lace you with the Gucci/Don't I deck you in the Louis why would you want to break up neway? (yes yes it's a joke!)

Nothing Complex about Pearl

Complex magazine always comes up with creative spreads and I'm always impressed with what they bring to the table. This time, they worked with one of my favorite (read: crush) models, Pearl, to make a cartoon-like photo spread directed by Marc Ecko and illustrated by critically-acclaimed comic artist Paul Pope. For 3 weeks while I was gone...

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was photographed for Exit Magazine by James Meakin and styled by Natalie Brewster.

Rosie, known for her doll face, was styled in futuristic outfits, with a beautiful background and an edgy look. She is by the way, my new favorite model of the moment.
